I. General terms of the contest

The VI International Contest of the Performers on Folk Instruments «Cup of the North» is intended for assisting of the young performers’ creation development, mastering their professional skills and culture, revealing new talented musicians and wide popularization of music for the folk instruments.
The VI International Contest «Cup of the North» is carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Mass Communications of the RF, the Federal Agency of Culture and Cinematography, the Government of the Vologda Region, the City Administration of Cherepovets with the direct participation of the Petrozavodsk State Conservatoire named after A.K. Glazunov and the Cherepovets Region College of Arts and Handicrafts named after V.V. Vereshchagin.
The VI International Contest «Cup of the North» carries out since 10 till 21 April, 2006 on the basis of the Cherepovets Region College of Arts and Handicrafts named after V.V. Vereshchagin.

The contest «Cup of the North» is carried out in the following specialties:
• bayan;
• accordion;
• balalaika,
• domra,
• mandoline,
• cymbals, toned percussion instruments,
• guitar.

Performers, working in concert organizations, theatres, radio, television, students of music institutions of higher education and music schools can take place in the contest. Their professional level is to meet the requirements of international contests.
Age of participants: from 17 till 32 years.
Diplomants and laureates of the 2nd and 3rd prizes of the previous contest, except possessors of the Grand Prix, laureates of the 1st prize of previous contests, are allowed to take part in the VI International Contest of the performers on folk instruments «Cup of the North».
In order to take part in the contest it is necessary to send on the address:

the following documents:

• application,
• short creative autobiography, pointing the teachers of school, college and institution of higher education,
• 1 colour photo (9x14)
• detailed programme on three rounds, pointing exactly the authors and the names of the performing works.
• registration fee amounts to 100 USD according to the rate of the MICEX on the date of payment (it is paid in the moment of registration).
In case of candidate's refusal to take part in the contest the documents and the registration fee are not given back.
The organizational committee is not responsible for the loosing the documents while sending.
Participants, being late to the beginning of casting of lots, can be allowed to the hearings only with the permission of the jury.


II. The order of holding the contest

Contest appearance for the soloists of section of bayan-accordion and stringed instruments played by plucking consists of three rounds.
The sequence of participant's appearances is determined by the casting of lots before the 1st round and remains to the end of the contest.
To the 2nd round no more than 50 % of the participants of the 1st round, who get the greatest number of marks with the 100-point system, is allowed.
7 soloists, who get the greatest number of marks according to the sum of results of two rounds, pretending to the 3 ranks of the laureate and the 4 ranks of the diplomant are allowed to the 3rd round. If the estimation of one member of the jury differs for 10 or more marks from middle one, it is eliminating from the voting and a middle mark is counted again. After the 1st and the 2nd rounds statements of the participants' marks, not passing to the next round, are published. All the marks of the participants' appearances are published after the contest. Determination of winners is conducted by the discussion and voting on the basis of sum of the middle marks during 3 rounds. A member of the jury has no right of estimating his students.
The participants in the section of bayan and accordion has the right of using bayan and accordion of any type, size, model, except for instruments in which electronic adapters and boosters are used.
Texts of musical works which were not published in Russia are to be sent in two copies to the organizational committee not later than the beginning of the contest hearings.
The sequence of performing the works in every round is set up by a participant, who indicates this sequence in the statement.

The Jury has a right of:
- awarding not all the prizes and diplomas to the finalists;
- dividing one prize between participants;
- awarding special prizes;
- interrupting participants' performance if they violate the prescribed limit of time or the professional level of the participant does not correspond to the level of an International contest.
The decision of the jury is final and can not be subjected to any discussion, ballot is secret.

III. Financial terms of the contest

It is necessary for all of the laureates to take part in concerts for free (no more than 2), which will be organized by the organizational committee after the contest.
The winners of the contest are to take part in a final concert.
The participants pay a travel to Cherepovets and back and residence in a hotel due to the guiding side or for their account. The organizational committee guarantees the place of residence.
The organizational committee guarantees travel payment to the participants of finale at the rate of 50% fare on territory of countries of the CIS.
The organizational committee reserves all rights to the record (audio-, video- cassettes and compact discs) of all rounds of the contest and Gala-concert as well as their further use at any time without any rewards to the participants.

IV. Prizes

The winners of the contest get the rank of laureates or diplomants and are awarded with diplomas, money prizes, and memorable medals. Money prizes will be handed after the Gala-concert of the laureates of the contest.
All the participants, not passing in the 3rd found will be awarded with deeds for participation in the 2nd round. Participants of the finale, not getting the rank of laureates or diplomants will be awarded with deeds for participation in the 3rd round.
The jury has the right of not awarding the Grand Prix of the contest. The organizational committee can establish special prizes to the participants of the contest.

The rank of the diplomant (leader) 300 $ USA (5)

Conductors can not pretend to the rank of the Diplomant of the contest if they were awarded with this rank on previous contests «CUP OF THE NORTH»
A prize fund is single for laureates and diplomants of each prize and is divided between them equally.
